The “Reboozy”

A special cocktail developed by New York-based chef, Jamie Schoenfeld @chefjamienyc for The National Reuse Awards® (The Reusies®). This recipe works great as a mocktail too (aka The “Non-Reboozy”), just omit the rum!

Ingredients

  • One 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons simple syrup*

  • 1 1/2 ounces aged rum

  • 1 1/2 ounces apple cider

  • Ice

  • 1 1/2 ounces chilled ginger beer

  • 1 lime wedge

  • 1 slice of apple

*A note about simple syrup

If you can boil water, you can make simple syrup! It consists of equal parts granulated sugar and water. Use ½ cup of water & ½ cup of granulated sugar. Heat on the stove over medium heat until sugar is dissolved – this will take only a few minutes. Don’t throw away those old herbs or that fruit in the fridge that’s about to turn!!! You can fancy up your simple syrup by adding herbs, or fruit to the water & sugar as it dissolves on the stove. I like to make mint simple syrups, but a pear simple syrup might be a wonderful addition to this particular cocktail. Simple syrups will easily last a month in the fridge in a REUSABLE jar with a tight-fitting lid…Enjoy!

Directions

In a cocktail shaker, muddle the ginger with the simple syrup. Add the rum and cider; fill the shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass and top with the ginger beer. Garnish with the lime wedge and apple slice.
